God's Picture of the Church
If we could somehow take a picture of Christianity, not as we know it to be, or perceive it to be, but how God meant it to be. Would it look or function in any way, as we know it today.
This is a tough question and one we would like to say yes to or ignore it completely, but if we do the next question we face is “is it possible that we could be held responsible before God for the picture we paint of Christianity for the world to see?” and does it really matter what we teach as truth or is it all relative to what we choose to believe or our denomination?
I believe that the Church has refused to grow up and has settled for form rather than power and the glory of the Lord. I believe God is making demands on us to lay aside form for power and His glory.
Jeremiah 6:14 says: “and they have healed the brokenness of my people superficially, saying ‘peace, peace, but there is no peace”. The church has managed to get people to recite the sinners prayer, attend meetings, and has given them guidelines for Christian living, thereby giving them false superficial peace but they are just as hurting, broken, sick and lifeless as before. God says I have given you life and that more abundantly!
So if I could paint you a picture of Christianity what would it look like and would it be in word or in power?
Friends I believe Jesus IS the picture of the Church “which is His body the fullness of Him who fills all in all”. Eph1: 23 If we are indeed His body we can and WILL function in Him as the head. The only thing stopping us is our consciousness of Him. Before we can know Him, He must first open up our consciousness to Him for the Bible says that the natural man cannot understand the things of the Spirit because they are Spiritually discerned. 1 Cor 2:14. We are told that the supernatural manifestations are not for today or that we seek the Giver not the gifts, but if we have the Giver we should have the gifts. God always acts like God in all He does. Jesus was God being God in flesh by the Spirit of God. When He poured out His Spirit in Acts and came to make us His temple He is now God being God in and through us. Our problem is the lack of fathers in the church today that have walked a supernatural lifestyle so they can lead us, so God has to send us the writings of the fathers of yesterday inspired of the Holy Spirit to open our consciousness so He can bring us light.
Let us cry out to God for a deeper consciousness of Him, and let us let the Holy Spirit birth in us the very nature, power and glory of Christ Himself and let God be God in us!
Let us see the Word of God in Isaiah 61 fulfilled in us: “ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord”.
